Illegal Parking Income in Cakung Flyover Reaches Rp 18 M

Illegal parking business in the capital is indeed very tempting. Ironically, its income result which reaches tens of millions rupiah is only enjoyed by certain officials and community organizations. Every month, they could reap Rp 18 million through a parking lot under Cakung Flyover, East Jakarta.

From illegal parking under Cakung Flyover that has been exist since last three months, can accommodate about 400 motorcycles per day. Usually, parking attendant asks for parking fees as much as Rp 2,000-Rp 4,000 to any motorists who park their vehicles.

Andi, (24), one of parking attendants explained parking lot operates at 6.30 AM-11 PM with four parking attendants in the field. They are rewarded around Rp 50,000 per day.
According to him, each month, the amount of income from illegal parking business is reaching Rp 18 million. But he did not tell where the money would be deposited. "I don't know for sure where the money will be deposited. Certainly, we only get wage of Rp 50,000 per day," he expressed, Thursday (9/11).
He added, majority of his customer is commuter line passengers. "Every morning, they entrust their vehicles, and then taken in the afternoon," he expressed.

beritajakarta.com observations, besides illegal parking lot, under flyover is also used by a number of street vendors to sell merchandise, ranging from CDs, children toys, vegetables and fruits.Head of Cakung Sub-District, Ali Murtadho disclosed that some vendors and vehicles' data have been collected. There are 27 vendors set up stalls in such area and hundreds of motorcycles parked haphazardly.
"We already discussed it at meeting and will be controlled. This is the authority of Transportation Sub-Department. Then us, will hold raid against street vendors next week," he stated.
Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Benhard Hutajulu promised to immediately check Cakung Flyover. If there is no illegal parking, his sub-department will coordinate with Jakarta Parks and Cemetery Department for construction of parking lot.
"We're going to encourage all vehicles parked under Cakung Flyover to move to the official parking area. Otherwise, we want to organize it," he expressed.
In accordance witn, the instruction of Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' Purnama, all flyover areas in Jakarta should be free from illegal parking, such as street vendors, parking service places, etc. Therefore, they will be transformed into the green open space (RTH).
